Marche

The region of Marche is located in the central area of the country, bordered by Emilia-Romagna and the republic of San Marino to the north, Tuscany to the west, Umbria to the southwest, Abruzzo, and Lazio to the south, and the Adriatic. Often described as ‘all of Italy in one region,’ it has the Apennines in the west, rolling farmland and plains in the center, as well as beautiful beaches and steep cliffs along its eastern shore. Marche has 100 miles of Adriatic coastline. Visit Parco del Cornero, one of Italy’s more beautiful coastal stretches, or the Grotte di Frasassi, one of Europe’s largest cave systems. Marche is well known for its shoe-making traditions. The most luxurious Italian shoes are produced here. Towns to visit in Marche are Urbino, where Raphael was born, and which was a major cultural centre in the 15th century.

Capital – Ancona

 

Ancona is a busy port on the eastern coast of Italy and is located by the Adriatic Seal. It has a population of 101 thousand. Its economy is based on commercial shipping and passenger travel. Ancona is a wonderful tourist destination, in part to its breathtaking beaches, weather, culture, and traditions. Its historical buildings include the Arco di Traiano and the Mole Vanvitelliana. The Archeological Museum is housed in a 16th century palazzo filled with frescoes, Neolithic Etruscan.

Foods of Marche

 

 

Olive Ascolane

Pitted meat filled, breaded, and then deep-fried olives. The olives are large grown in the town of Marche.

Salsiccia di Fegato

A liver sausage made with pork liver, lard salt, pepper seasoning and grated oranges.

Brodetto alla Recanatese

A seafood stew made with saffron. Served with toasted bread.

 

Mazzafegato

Liver, tongue, tail, heart, spleen, lungs, and different leftover scraps of meat are coarsely ground and flavoured with salt, pepper, pepperoncini, garlic, fennel flowers, lemon, and orange zest.

 

Crostata al Torrone

An Italian dessert. It is made with a pastry shell and a sweet filling which is very similar to nougat.

 

Brodetto Fanese

A seafood stew made with onions, tomatoes, white wine vinegar, olive oil, squid, monkfish, mullet, mantis shrimp, shrimps, mussels, and clams.

 

Pollo alla 'ncip 'nciap

A chicken dish that is served in cut-up pieces. The name indicates the sound that the knife makes when the chicken is cut.

Historic Centre of Urbino

Pesaro and Urbino

In the 15th century, Urbino flourished under the leadership of Federico da Montefeltro, a humanist who attracted some of the most prominent scientists and artists to the city. The city’s Renaissance architecture has been largely preserved as Urbino entered cultural and economic stagnation from the 16th century onwards.
